Princess Lucy
.:Meet my Red Head:.
Lucy is my very special girl. She is a Vosmarie/Red Sided eclectus whose 8 years old. She is the sweetest adulat ekkie I have ever met and has found her permanant home with me and my family!
Lucy's Tale
Lucy was bought about 8 years ago as a baby. She was sweet and darling and always has been. Unfortunatly, about 2 years ago, she started nesting was literlly starving herself. Well, one of her owners took away her egg and ever since, she's hated him- with a passion (bit him to the bome once) Well, she grew to like her other owner, but unfortunatly, he didn't have the time to invest in her. She continued laying eggs excessivly, 8 in a season, 4 more the next. After that, the vet decided to give her a series of hormone shots so she would stop egg laying long enough to let her body recover.
She is now off hormone shots, but unfortunatly plucked herself pretty good. She has yet to lay/nest again, but her owners saw she needed more attention than she was getting and needed a female owner more than anything (she LOVES women!). She they posted her free on CL. I resoponded and they seemed to know how much I loved them. We picked her up last night and OMG, she is a DOLL!!! She is such a love and is talking (which she rarley did) and is settling in very well!
Lucy's Feathers
Lucy currently isn't as beautiful as she once was, but we are getting there. Just because a bird is plucked doesn't mean that it doesn't deserve a good home ful of love. Most of the time, plucking is related to a medical issue, so be sure that you see and talk to your vet asap when you notice your bird is plucking. For Lucy, hormone imbalances were to blame. Because she is not taking hormone shots anymore, we are recovering and getting back her beautiful feather! Look back for updates on Lucy's Feathers soon!
Although slightly plucked, Lucy is still a wonderful companion and I enjoy ever minute with her. We are working though the plucking, working to get her to be as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. Feathers or no feathers, she has found her permanant place in our family. My dream has finally come true, and I love it!
The Eclectus Diet
There is a lot of controversy going on about bird's deits, especially Eclectus. For me, I comibne common sense with vetinary advice. I feed Lucy Harrison's Bird Foods Pepper Lifetime coarse, which has corn, barley, soybean, peanuts peas, sunflower seed, and cayenne pepper just to name a few. I also make sure Lucy has plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, especially those that are dark colored that contain lots of Beta Carotien, which converts to Vitamin A. Sprouts are also a big part of the diet. When a seed or bean is beginning to grow is when it is at it's healthiest point, making it very healthy and delicous for birds! I also hard boil an egg every couple days and serve with the shell. It makes another yummy, healthy treat! I believe that birds also need seeds. Although many people believe that seeds are bad, I have to disagree. Seeds are natures way of making new plants and if they were really as bad as they are made out to be, why would birds in the wild eat them and live 50+ years? I, like us all, want what's best for our birds. I try to make their diet delicous and nutricous!
Be sure to check back soon for updates on Lucy's Feathers. They will be listed on a special place in the Corkboard shortly!
Remember, Eclectus love to eat! Fufill their wild side with fun foraging toys, colorful fruits and veggies and be sure to vary them daily. Talk to your vet about what diet is best suited for your bird to ensure their best health.
