Welcome to Echo's page! Echo is my Congo African Grey who has become a big part of my life. No doubt, adopting a grey was probably one of the smartest things I have ever done, they are wonderful!

How I got Echo

My mom was browsing Craig'sList under pets. She saw an add for a Congo African Grey. It said that he wasn't fond of children, but I emailed her anyways. I was extatic to hear he was still avalible and I was the first to email her. I had been disapointed over Christmas when a woman with a grey and eclectus never called us and in Janruary when the owners decided to keep her. Now, finally, I had found a bird! I looked forward to every email, every picture. I was checking on the computer constantly.

By the end of the week, I went to see him. It was love at first sight, after a few harsh "Who are you?" bites. We played together and he chattered away. That day, we broughthim home and I have never regretted it. Looking back now, I am so happy to have gotten Echo. He is young, happy, fully feathered and quite and chatter box! All day long, he is talkign to himself and Harley, babbling on and on in jibberish.

To be honest, if I had known how great owning a grey was, I would have wanted one a long time ago, but then I wouldn't have my Echo, would I?

The Story of a Little Grey Trickster

We have three toy poodles who, unfortunatly, are quite... barky. If they are outside, they will bark, bark bark until you let them in. It can be very irritating. The backyard backs up to our house and the bird room, where the door to the outside is. Echo's cage is a few feet from there, by a window. One evening, we were all sitting around watching TV when my dad said "Will somebody get those yappers in!". My mom and I, who had just taken them outside, said in a laughing voice "Honey, that's not the dogs, that's Echo".

I think it just goes to show how quickly they pick up sounds. Echo had only been with us a few days, and for him to have picked it up with such acuracy, is quite amazing!

Shopping Time!

"Hey Mom, time to go! We got somenew toys to buy!!! Come on, let's go! See, I already have your purse?"

What Its Like

Owning a Congo Grey is amazing! They are one of the best birds to be around and I cannot say anything but good about them! I didn't ever realize why anyone would want to own one before. They don't have dramatic coloration and are in a way, plain looking. But then I realized how much I want one. I never new why, because I couldn't figure out what made me so attracted to them. That was until I owned one.

Echo is a on-of-a-kind bird. He is so special to me for so many reasons. It is hard to just talk about one, but I will start with companionship. I find it so heart-warming that bird bird could give you so much love. Echo will fly off his perch to find me in the house. He will call to me; when I am in the backyard, he hangs from the back of his cage, looking at me with that "Won't you come and love me?" look. It works every time too! He lets me give him scritches on the head and rub him on the neck. His favorite place to be is either on top of my head or cuddled up tight by my neck, rubbing his cheek against mine. It really does make your heart melt and want to give so much love!

I don't know what my life would be like without him. He brings so much joy and makes me so glad I own one!

The Adoption Option

When you think about adopting a bird, do you picture a bird whose plucked, a screamer, scared to death and very old? There are birds out there like that, but adopting a bird doesn't mean they are all like that. Believe it or not, my almost one-year old is adopted. Adoption doesn't mean a rescue, but giving an unwanted bird a home. Echo was loved, but unfortunatly, he wasn't able to get enough attention. He was for adoption on craigslist. I emailed her, and a week later, he came home with me! It was like bringing a new child into the house. You wanted them to be so happy, feel so loved.

I was worried Echo would be disturbed by allthe attention, but he fell right into out daily routein like he had been there forever. No plucking, screaming, nothing, he was an absolute gentleman. I really do think people should look into adopting a bird before a breeder. You may find a perfect bird who is all you want. Of course, not wanting to buy a baby bird is something no bird lover could restist, but adopting one can be so rewarding as well!
